For the final installation in the cottage, I wanted to show projected video of the digital painting process. One of the reasons I requested the darker months of the year for my residency was to have darker skies for better visibility.
Wouldn't you know it, this is what I saw for most of my days at the park.
Brilliant, right!? But not ideal for showing projections, especially because the cottage faces southwest, perfectly capturing the late afternoon winter sun.
I decided to embrace this “problem” by printing some of the images as semi-transparent window clings to cover the south windows and sliding glass doors of the cottage. My hope was that this would darken the space enough to see the projection inside the cottage on sunny days and present a backlit effect from outside the cottage on cloudy days... the experience would depend on the weather.
The other "problem" for installing art were the spectacular views from the cottage. Why look inward when there is such stunning beauty looking out. So, for part of the installation, I projected images out the windows toward the view, incorporating the view into the work.
