In Sense of Place, I explore physical places and landscapes through lenses of emotion and collective experiences. The results are abstracted “place-portraits.” The exhibit includes selected individual works from my Daily Art Habit series that act as personal time capsules, capturing moments in place and time by combining mark-making, writing and photography in an intuitive digital painting process. Also featured is the collaborative work “Sammamish River,” a 564-piece collaborative work, including 104 pieces contributed by community members that were inspired by the river in some way. Created with support from the City of Bothell Arts Commission, the shape of this work reflects the course of the river as it passes through the city of Bothell, a portrait of place shaped by our collective experiences.
