Stephanie Krimmel, Eye to I, mixed media installation, 4'9" x 25' x 4", 2024
Sung I Chun, Magic Green Pill, mixed media, 2' x 3' x 3', 2024
Sung I Chun and Stephanie Krimmel cooperate to present “Metatopology”, an experiential exhibit delving into the interplay between self and society.
Chun and Krimmel’s art practices share an interest in creating novel forms of self-portraiture, Chun through sculptures representing empirical measurements such as weight and volume of the body, and Krimmel with daily creative expression of physical and emotional experiences that take form as colorful and large-scale paper sculpture installations.
In this exhibition both artists explore the vulnerable and two-way relationships between our personal intentions and societal expectations. Through diverse media, including interactive installations and thought-provoking sculptures, the exhibition explores how our perceptions of self and our ideals are dynamically shaped and transformed by the rich tapestry of social influences that surround us.
The multi-sensory experience includes a 7 x 13 foot 'flippy' sequin wall where visitors are invited to make their marks, strawberry-flavored cotton candy, and a soundtrack curated by student DJs at local dance music radio station, c89.5.

Q&A
WHERE DID THE ARTWORK FOR 'EYE TO I' COME FROM?
The source material is my Daily Art Habit series. I make a digital painting every day. This is a practice I started in 2018 to reclaim my creative energy after a long hiatus from art. Since then, it has grown and evolved into a time-based series of digital paintings – now built over more than 2200 consecutive days’ work.

HOW DO YOU MAKE THE ART?
These are produced by hand with an Apple Pencil on an iPad Pro using the Adobe Sketch and Adobe Fresco apps.
HOW IS IT ORGANIZED AND INSTALLED?
This installation is organized primarily by color. The works are printed as 5.5x5.5 inch postcards, sorted, and constructed into pyramidal units, which then are attached directly to the wall with map pins.
HOW LONG DOES THAT TAKE?
It took about 10 hours solo effort to install this work. Not so long compared to the years it took to make the individual pieces of art! I estimate the process of sorting the images and constructing the individual pyramidal units at about 50 hours.
HAVE YOU EVER MISSED A DAY?
Yes – I’ve missed ten days over the nearly six years of the Daily Art Habit. I record the days I’ve missed with an acknowledgment piece. You’ll see some of them in the installation.
IS IT FOR SALE?
Eye to I is made up of units that can be re-configured to fit various installation locations. Please contact me to discuss how it might fit in your space on loan or semi-permanently. I have smaller works using the same construction techniques available for $350-$2400. I also produce fine art prints of the individual works in various editions and sizes for sale. Or you may commission a custom multi-piece construction ranging in size from 100 to 1000+ pieces. Check out my shop to see available work, and/or contact me to inquire about a specific piece or commission.
