Installation view showing HOPE, LOVE and JOY by Stephanie Krimmel, 2024
In Whole, multidisciplinary artist Stephanie Krimmel presents paper constructions and augmented reality artwork exploring a range of emotional experience.
Works in this exhibition include large wall-mounted paper sculptures depicting the words HOPE, LOVE and JOY in extreme oblique view. These are constructed with images selected from Krimmel’s daily digital painting practice that are printed as postcards, scored, folded and assembled into the forms seen here.
Krimmel previously used the same physical materials that make up HOPE, LOVE and JOY to create a different set of words, reading FEAR, LOSS and PAIN. The remainders of these works are shown alongside their counterparts in the gallery, and visitors can experience the original works using augmented reality technology on phone cameras.
In this exhibit, Whole refers to the breadth of human experience, as well as the entirety of output from Krimmel’s autobiographical daily digital painting practice, which is also on view.
